On August 20, 2000 an amazing event happened, Cortlyn RaeAnn Hendricks was born....the more amazing part is that I wasn't there! So sometime in the afternoon of the 20th a 7 pound 14 ounce 21 inches long baby girl was born and I never even realized the impact that birth would have on my life. She was perfect; sweet round face, beautiful eyes...she was by no doubt her father's child. D.H. couldn't deny her if he tried, and yet still a baby himself, a mere 21 years young and he couldn't have imagined what this day would truly mean for his life. And since that day they have been bonded like no other pair I've seen in my life.My and Cortlyn's story starts a little later, May 29, 2002 when a toddling 18 month old girl fell into my arms and landed in my heart. I couldn't have realized the significance of this child in my life at that time, I felt like merely a babysitter or a cool new toy, but as the years go by, I thank God everyday for the blessing he so graciously gave to me, a blessing named Cortlyn.
I came after the first words, first steps, first giggle....but I was there for her first bike wreck, her first dance class, and I helped wipe tears when kitty Stinky died. First day of preschool, kindergarten, first time she jumped off the driving board with no floaties, first bike ride without training wheels! And now she's 8 years old...starting third grade, loves Troy from High School Musical and singing in the shower! I can't believe it all happened so fast, but that teeter-toddling baby girl has somehow grown up into a very beautiful, intelligent, loving tween!
So Happy Birthday Cortlyn! I love you!

Dang it Alissa....I had to crap a tissue for that one. It is so nice to be able to talk to someone who knows exactly how I am feeling. You are an awesome mom and stepmom. Lets get together with the kids, soon.
I also had to grab a tissue! I know you feel blessed, but I think Cortlyn is such a lucky girl!
